It all started when…

Cathy Spielberger Cassetta, 500-RYT, founded The Tabard Theatre Company in downtown San Jose in 2001 and served as its artistic director and executive artistic director until she retired from Tabard in June 2020. Building on her many years in the Hollywood television industry, Cathy created, produced, and co-hosted the weekly Northern California South Bay television program Theatre This Week in the mid-1990s. A theatre artist who has worked both on- and off-stage, she has taught dance as well as theatre and playwriting to every grade from junior kindergarten through college. A produced playwright having written nearly a dozen plays, she is especially proud of Tabard’s 2015 production of Homeward Bound: An Orphan Train Journey. Her journey with yoga began as a result of a personal quest to regain balance, health, and peace after a series of family losses and career stress. Yoga offered a physical workout her dancer’s body yearned for with the introspective calm her soul embraced. With teaching yoga as a natural next step, she now has 1,000+ hours in teacher training.

Cathy teaches yoga in person in Palm Springs and The Sea Ranch as well as online via Zoom with a focus on yoga for healthy aging. She has offered several workshops: Yoga and Creativity and The Art of Bone Health through Yoga. She approaches the bone health workshop with first-hand interest and application, having been diagnosed with osteoporosis in 2011 at severe levels. A professional theatre director, playwright, teacher, actor and former dancer, Cathy was drawn to yoga as a way to combat the condition of her bones. As a result of her yoga practice, in addition to stronger bones, muscles, and balance, she has regained some of the height she lost through improper bone alignment. She is excited to share with others what she’s learned as a yoga practitioner and teacher.
